Softball 2011
Alexandria Co-Ed Softball League 1. The official rules of play
will be the 2010/2011 Amateur Softball Association rules. Exceptions and
additions to those rules are listed on these sheets. Games
will be played on Fairfax County Fields and at Plymouth Haven Field. Umpires
will be from a local umpire association and our own as needed. 2. Home team is listed at the
right side on the schedule. Unless the toss of coin method is noted in the
schedule. 3. Home team is the official
scorer. The winning team should
either call or email the result of the game into 571 278-5987 to the answering
machine, within 24-hours of the game. HOWEVER, it is best to email the
score to: sportsrecplus@cs.com. 4. Game
time will be 6:40 p.m. for an unlit field. There will be a 10-minute grace
period for teams that need to wait on their players.
Teams should start as soon as they have enough players, eight, to play.
They should not wait until 6:50 p.m. for extra players.
Once a game is declared a “forfeit”, this decision cannot be
reversed. Even if enough players
show up two minutes later, the game goes as a forfeit.
The umpire’s watch is the official timepiece. Games
on a lighted field will begin at 6:40 p. m. and will have only a 10 minute
forfeit time. 7. In

12.
If a player is ejected from any game, whether from the playing field or the
dugout area, that player must leave the playing field for the night.
He/she may play in no more games during that night.
In addition, that player may not play in any more games that season for
his/her team until he/she meets with the League Commissioner, Rick Mitchell. The
purpose of this meeting will be to discuss what happened, the circumstances
surrounding the incident, and how to make sure it will never happen again.
Failure on the part of the player to contact the League Commissioner and
have this conference will mean the said player may not play in any more league
or tournament games for the remainder of the year or until the conference takes
place. If a player does play in any
games those games will be forfeited.

The substitute runner will be the last person of the same sex to have
made an out. Only two runners may be substituted for in any given inning.
EXCEPTION: If the team bats around you may substitute for the same runner(s),

runners in an inning and then a third runner/player gets injured and cannot run
the bases they should be removed from the bases and an out called on them.
AGE: Players should be 14
years of age, or older. They may
become 14 anytime during the calendar year. RULE
5

with the team that is ahead being declared the winner. INFIELD
FLY RULE: The infield fly rule is in
effect, but the ball is dead after the out is called, runners may not advance.
Unlimited
arch. The ball must go at least
three feet above the pitching hand of the pitcher or it is declared an illegal
pitch and a ball is called. However,
if the batter swings at it, it will then be considered legal. RULE
7 BATTING A
team must have eight to start or continue a game.
You
may bat all who come to the game.
When batting more than ten players be sure to send no more than ten
players out onto the field to play defense at any one time. SUMMER BALL--A team must
have at least eight players to begin a game. Men and women must bat alternately.
No more that 5 men may be sent out on defense at any time. You must have at
least 3 women present at the game or it is a forfeit. You must bat the men and
women alternatively. Women can be rotated in the order to make the batting
order work out properly. EXAMPLE: You can have 5 men and 3 women present
and play the game. However, you will have to rotate your women in the batting
order for them to bat alternately. In this case, the females will bat almost
twice as many times as the males. FALL BALL-- A team must have at least eight players to begin a game. You may never have more that four more men on the field, defense, than women,( 7M & 3F, 6M & 4F, or 5M & 5F). No more that 7 men may be sent out on defense at any time. You must start a game with at least 3 females with the three women batting alternately at the beginning of the line-up. Less than 3 women is a forfiet. You must bat the men and women alternatively from the beginning of the line-up. Women may not be rotated in the order to make the batting order work out properly. Each coach should leave two or three spaces empty for women/men arriving late to be inserted into the bating order at the time they arrive. Once men and women have
been listed alternately in the line-up you may bat all remaining players,
straight without alternating man/woman. BALL/STRIKE COUNT: Count
begins with 0 and 0. If man walks on four straight balls he goes to second base
and the following woman goes to first base, no exceptions. But, if the man
is followed by a man, then he only goes to first base and the following man
bats. If a man walks, but has a strike against him, then he only
goes to first base. NOTE: On four straight balls, if there is no woman
batting behind the man because the team is playing with only two women, then the
following woman's spot is an out. The man still goes to second base. In all cases, other base
runners only advance if forced to advance. If a batter hits a foul
ball on the third strike it is an out. (no courtesy) Teams all allowed only one
home run, over the fence, per game. No one-up rule. The next,
and all following, home runs are singles. In all cases other base runners
only advance if forced to advance. RULE
8 BATTER-RUNNER
AND RUNNER All
bases may be over-run as long as the runner turns to the right and/or does not
attempt to advance to the next base. If a player slides and slides past
the base it is the same as over-running the base.
