Back to "Basketball/Softball" page.. Orange County 2011 Co-ed Church Softball League 1. The official rules of play will be the 2010 and/or 2011 Amateur Softball Association rules. Exceptions and additions to those rules are listed on these sheets. Games will be played on Orange County and Spotsylvania County Fields. Umpires will be from our own teams.
Rules, unless noted, can be altered, by agreement of both teams, before a game in order to make it possible to play that game. NOTE: All rules revert back to these rules for the next game. 2. Home team is listed at the right side on the schedule. 3. Home team is the official scorer. The winning team should either call or email the result of the game into 571 278-5987 to the answering machine, within 24-hours of the game. HOWEVER, it is best to email the score to: sportsrecplus@cs.com. 4. Game
time will be 6:15 p.m. for an unlit field. (6:15 p.m. and 6:00 p.m in the
fall. Check your schedule for exact game times.) There will be a 10-minute
grace period for teams that need to wait on their players.
Teams should start as soon as they have enough players, eight, to play.
They should not wait until 7:00 p.m., in the summertime, for extra
players. Once a game is declared a
“forfeit”, this decision cannot be reversed.
Even if enough players show up two minutes later, the game goes as a
forfeit. The umpire’s watch is the
official timepiece. If a team is short of players the team may borrow
players from the opposing team to play a game. Members from a team’s
church may play in any regular season game. Games on a lighted field will begin at 6:45 p. m. and will have only a 10 minute forfeit time. 7. In the event of rain call the team you are to play to determine if you will play or not. Then call Rick Mitchell, on his Cellular at (571) 278-5987 to let him know so he can reschedule the game if you decide not to play. 8. Rosters are due by
the tournament. Please have your
roster turned in by then. Additions
can be made to your roster at any time during the season. After your final
regular season game rosters are set. A player must play, be in the
line-up, for at least three games during the season and
attend at least one church service to be eligible to play in the tournament.
The team coach must verify the
player’s eligibility to play in the tournament.
The tournament roster is due after the last regular season game, but
before the tournament begins. Any player who is present at a game and the game
is rained out or forfeited may count those games toward the three games needed
to play in the tournament. A
maximum of only two games may be counted in this manner. NOTE: A player must have physically played
in at least one game to be eligible to play in the tournament. NO exception will be made for failing to attend the team’s church for at least one service. 9. Trophies, awards: The first and second place teams in both the league and tournament will be given a trophy. 10. League fee is $ “140.00” due by the first game. (Please make check out to “Sports & Rec Plus") 11. Tournament will be after the regular season. No pick-up players allowed in the tournament. All players must be on their team roster and have played in at least three games during the regular season to be eligible for tournament. (Also see No. 8, above.) 12.
If a player is ejected from any game, whether from the playing field or the
dugout area, that player must leave the playing field for the night.
He/she may play in no more games during that night.
In addition, that player may not play in any more games that season for
his/her team until he/she meets with the League Commissioner, Rick Mitchell. The
purpose of this meeting will be to discuss what happened, the circumstances
surrounding the incident, and how to make sure it will never happen again.
Failure on the part of the player to contact the League Commissioner and
have this conference will mean the said player may not play in any more league
or tournament games for the remainder of the year or until the conference takes
place. If a player does play in any
games those games will be forfeited.
NOTE: Zero tolerance for use of foul language, drinking, smoking on playing
field, fighting, arguing, and any other unchristian, un-sportsman like conduct. It is the coach’s responsibility to enforce these rules and guidelines. He/she will have the most authority and the respect of his/her players. NOTES AND ADDITIONS TO THE OFFICIAL RULES OF PLAYRULE 1 DEFINITIONS No changes 1. No Demirini bats on the banned list, or double-walled bats on the banned list, or any other bats on the banned list are allowed. If a player steps into the batter’s box with any of the above named type of bats or any other illegal bat he/she will be called out immediately. RULE 2 THE PLAYING FIELD No changes GROUND RULES RULE 3 EQUIPMENT Smoking, drinking, gambling, wearing jewelry, use of foul language, or wearing metal cleats is not permitted. The league will supply official league balls to each team. The home team supplies a new official league ball for games in which they are the home team. The visiting team a playable official league ball. If the home team does not have a new ball, the one supplied by the league, they will lose home team advantage to the other team. The other team does not need to supply a new ball if they become home team by virtue of the other team not having an official league ball. Only a playable official league ball. The official league ball will be the one supplied by the league. It will be 12 inch, restricted flight, will be used for all batters, male and female. The .44 ball/375 compression will be the official ball. RULE 4 PLAYERS AND SUBSTITUTIONS For this league: Adult players may become 15 anytime during the
calendar year A team must have at least eight adult players to
begin a game. Less than eight players is a forfeit. Must have four
women to begin a game. Less that
four women the team will take outs in the missing woman/women’s batting
spot(s). (This rule cannot be
altered, even by agreement of both teams.) Less
than two women, is a forfeit. Six men is the maximum number of men that a team
may play on defense. EXAMPLE: If a
team has only three women and six men come to a game.
That team can play only nine on defense and take an out for the mission
woman’s batting spot. NOTE: A team may bat all the men it wants to
bat. It can never send more than six
men out to play defense at any time. Only adults are listed in the line-up. Younger players may bat leadoff in an inning. They can run bases, after their hit, but it will not count. (Some exceptions will apply to this rule when a church needs to play everyone in order to make a team.) Substitute runners:
If a substitute runner is needed then the last adult person to bat of the
same sex, that made an out, will be the substitute runner.
.RULE 5 THE GAME Games will be of seven innings in length. In the case of a shortened game it will be considered an official game if it has gone four (4) innings in length or three and one half (3 ½) innings in length if the home team is ahead. Week night doubleheaders will consist of two
games of 5 innings each. (In August) Single games are 7 innings. (In September) No time limit when there is only one game scheduled for the evening. When more than one game is scheduled, there will be a one-hour time limit on each game. No inning may start after the time limit is up. Tie games will be played until a winner is declared. If either team is ahead by 10 runs after five innings of play the game will end with the team that is ahead being declared the winner. Infield fly rule is in effect. However, the ball is immediately dead and runners may not advance. The batter-runner may not be thrown out from the
outfield on a batted ball. Once
reaching first base, they may be played on. A team may only score a maximum of ten runs per
inning. However, unlimited runs are
allowed in the last inning. The ball must go at least three feet above the
pitching hand of the pitcher or it is declared an illegal pitch and a ball is
called. However, if the batter
swings at it, it will then be considered legal. The pitch height is 6-12
feet. Use of Ball/Strike Mat: A mat may be used.
Any ball that strikes the mat will be ruled a strike regardless of where
it crosses home late. If a ball hits
home plate, it is a ball. If someone brings out an irregular size mat, and
both teams and the umpire agree to use it, it can be used. RULE 7 BATTING A team must have eight adults to start or
continue a game. You
must bat men and women alternately, to begin your lineup. When alternate batting
is finished, you can bat the remaining batters until finished.
You
should bat all adults who come to the game.
If
you have more men than women, you can bat your men straight once you complete
batting men and women alternately at the beginning of your line-up. When batting more than ten players be sure to send no more than ten adult players out onto the field to play defense at any one time. No more than six adult men on defense at any time. Count begins with 0 and 0. If a batter hits a foul ball on the third strike it is an out. (No courtesy) One over the fence home run, per team, per game. All home runs after that one are singles. Runners do not advance unless forced to advance. RULE 8 BATTER-RUNNER AND RUNNER Adult female may overrun a base as long as they turn to the right and make no advance toward the next base or home plate. If they do, they may be tagged out. Adult male runners may not overrun, except at first base. RULE 9 PROTESTS No protests. Play ball.
